#GivingTuesday

You can tell by the sudden change in temperature and the red Starbucks coffee cups that the holiday season is just around the corner! The best time of the year is finally here and there is no better time to give to others than the Christmas season. Just behind Thanksgiving, Black Friday and Cyber Monday, this year #GivingTuesday will be on December 3rd. For those who don’t know, #GivingTuesday is a day of giving at the start of the annual holiday season that celebrates and encourages charitable activities that support philanthropy and service of nonprofit organizations globally.

Every action counts and every dollar matters! #GivingTuesday’s movement reminds us that generosity and giving back is a big part of who we are and nowadays it’s never been more important or nearly as easy due to social media, to get involved all over the world. #GivingTuesday is all about helping the community grow and learn about how they are able to give back and how to get involved in making a difference. Everyone everywhere has something to give, whether it’s a monetary contribution, large or small, a portion of their time or sharing of their knowledge, expertise and skills.  Doing something is better than nothing at all.

There are several partner projects involved in this year’s #GivingTuesday including the Avon Foundation for Women, who will launch a #GivingTuesday campaign to match donations made in December to the National Domestic Violence Hotline to prevent calls from being unanswered. The Avon Foundation will use the hashtag #GivingTuesday on December 3 to raise awareness of domestic violence and to help drive donations to the Hotline. On #GivingTuesday, Bank of America is using all of its connections to fight against hunger. Bank of America is partnering with Feeding America as the exclusive sponsor of its holiday Give a Meal campaign to help the 49 million Americans who struggle with hunger. For every dollar contributed from November 18 through January 10, Bank of America will donate $2 more, up to a total match of $1,500,000. Big Brothers Big Sisters of America will engage its celebrity ambassadors and hold a Twitter party where “Bigs” will share their stories and tweet about why they give. The organization is also bringing together its 339 agencies to create #GivingTuesday campaigns within their communities.

So… what will YOU do to get involved!? We want to know!
