7 Insider Tips from the E-Board to the Class of 2017:

  • Maybe take off your lanyard… Unless it doesn’t bother you, but just know that people may recognize you as a first-year if you have it on!
  • The gym on campus is commonly referred to as the SpoCo, not necessarily the Sally Blair Ames Sports Complex.
  • The Holy Cross Center used to be a seminary, so if you are a first-year and you live there, you live in the Sem.
  • The difference between Merkert-Tracy and Merkert College Center. The College Center has the gymnasium for home basketball and volleyball games, while Merkert-Tracy is the one up on the hill next to the Education building.
  • Commons A and Commons B…. No. The “Loud Cafe” is the one that you see as soon as you walk out of the cafeteria with your food, and the “Quiet Cafe” is the one to the right. The volume is quite the same, so no worries about the distinction!
  • Mailbox etiquette: THESE MAILBOXES ARE HARD TO OPEN! If you’re stuck there for longer than ten minutes, you’re doing it wrong. Leave and come back later with someone who can help you, or ask the mailroom staff for assistance.
  • Prime times for The Hill: Right before it closes on the weekends, and when dinner closes upstairs! Expect lines at those times!
