SGA Brings Back the It’s On Us Campaign!

Hi folks! It’s your SGA E-Board here! We hope your first month of school has been off to a great and productive start. For the past few years the Executive Board of SGA has created blog posts to keep students informed of what is going on around campus and upcoming programs. We would first like to let you know that the It’s On Us campaign is back on campus for the 2016-2017 school year and we would love to have your support!

October 10th-14th is the It’s On Us Week of Action. For those of you who are unfamiliar with the It’s On Us campaign, this campaign started in the White House in 2014 to raise awareness in presenting sexual assault on college campuses across the United States. This initiative has gained impressive momentum and Stonehill College has been recognized for our efforts with this campaign by Vice President, Joe Biden. Starting at Fresh Check Day in September, SGA held a table to remind students that this campaign was coming back to campus for the 2016-2017 school year. We had students sign the pledge and remind them what It’s On Us is and how we are going to promote the campaign this year. Two weeks ago, we released our own video promoting the It’s On Us campaign featuring Stonehill students. Check out the link here!

This week we set up a table in the Commons where students have been coming by to take the pledge online. The pledge is a personal commitment to help keep women and men safe from sexual assault. It is a promise not to be a bystander to the problem, but to be a part of the solution. Students that sign the pledge (or have previously signed it) have been receiving a purple ribbon to wear on their shirts or backpacks to show their support for people that have been affected by sexual assault.

This initiative is very important to us as we know there have been instances of sexual assault at Stonehill and many other college campuses. We hope you all understand we can be a part of the solution by getting a friend home safe on the weekend and taking care of one another.

In terms of upcoming events, be on the look out for information regarding Midnight Madness, the Halloween Dance, and the State of the Hill.
