Coach Jim Reddish and the Stonehill College Men’s Soccer team are underway in their 2015 campaign. Reddish, now in his eighth season as head coach, is looking to improve on last season, which boasted the most successful soccer season in over 20 years.

This past weekend, the Skyhawks had two games in Buffalo against Daemen College and Roberts Wesleyan College, respectively. The Skyhawks came home with two wins.

R.J. Aprile, a senior captain, put Stonehill on the scoreboard 23 minutes and three seconds into the first half. Daeman College eventually tied the game, but senior Drew Montano fired a goal into the net to regain the lead.

The score remained 2-1 in favor of Stonehill at the conclusion of the first half.

70 minutes into the game, first-year Justin Brehm, scored the third goal of the match. This was the winning goal, Brehm’s second game-winning goal in three matches. The final score was 3-2.

Sophomore goalkeeper Conor McDonough made seven saves in his first collegiate start of his career.

Riding a big win on Friday, the Skyhawks knew a win on Saturday would be the icing on the cake.

The Skyhawks scored early and often in their match versus Roberts Wesleyan College. Three goals during the first 18 minutes of play proved to be enough to outlast their opponents.

Craig Moreau opened the scoring just three minutes into the first half. Montano found the back of the net for the second day in a row just 10 minutes after Moreau’s goal.

Aprile also scored consecutive days when he headed a pass from sophomore Matt Gallo into the net.

Roberts Wesleyan finally got on the scoreboard just before the end of the first half. Roberts Wesleyan put their second point of the day up 88 minutes into the game, but McDonough dazzled in the net to secure the second win of the weekend.

The Men’s Soccer team now boasts a three and two record this season. The team will play their next game Sept. 19 when the travel to Franklin Pierce University.
